Sprout Social’s Legal team is hiring a Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Product & Privacy to lead the newly-created Product legal team and the existing Privacy legal team. This role will report directly into the Company’s General Counsel as a member of the Legal leadership team and work cross-functionally with the Product, Engineering, Partnerships and Governance, Risk & Compliance teams.

What you’ll do
Serve as the lead counsel in providing comprehensive, proactive and business-forward product legal counseling to the Engineering and Product teams.
Build a product advisory function within the Legal team, including mentoring junior attorneys to become proficient in this space.
Lead the Privacy legal team, responsible for supporting the business in evaluating the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance, and enforcement actions and developing and implementing frameworks and processes to ensure Sprout Social meets its obligations under global privacy laws and other regulatory frameworks relevant to its business.
Engage with product development and engineering leaders ensuring that privacy by design is a consistent practice across all Sprout Social products and services and create norms and practices of collaboration to ensure the Product and Privacy team are able to build on these processes.
Be a thought leader for the business on emerging technologies and evolving compliance requirements and translate the legal terms into business requirements, guidance, and advice.
Create norms and processes to ensure the Product and Privacy team are engaging with the Product and Engineering teams to understand the product roadmap and priorities, to ensure legal considerations are considered during development of products and services.
Collaborate with the Partnerships team and supporting legal team members to ensure compliance with developer terms and cross-functional alignment.
Ensure the Product and Privacy team have created a brand of business minded attorneys and paraprofessionals that accelerate business priorities.
What you’ll bring
We are seeking a business-minded attorney with an ability to think on their feet and solve hard problems that move the business forward while managing risk. This individual must be a proven leader with the ability and desire to coach and mentor both senior and junior attorneys and professional staff. This individual must be comfortable navigating gray areas, be a strong communicator and have strong project management skills enabling this person to move work forward in a results and deadline-driven environment. Decisiveness and exceptional legal judgment are paramount.
The minimum qualifications for this role include:
Law degree with strong academic credentials and active membership in a U.S. state or international bar
Minimum 12 years total legal experience
Minimum 6 years of related experience specializing in product development, privacy or emerging technologies, preferably with both law firm and in-house experience
Preferred qualifications for this role include:
Deep expertise in privacy and technology issues impacting the Martech and social media industry preferred
Extensive experience leading cross-functional teams on large and complex projects
Significant experience mentoring junior attorneys and paraprofessional staff in privacy and product advisory areas
Proficient with data privacy issues related to the use of AI and Generative AI

The base pay range for this role is $260,000 - $340,000 USD annually. Individual base pay is based on various factors, including relevant experience and skills, the responsibility of the role, and job duties/requirements. In addition to base pay, some Sales and Success roles can earn sales incentives.
Sprout’s compensation ranges are intentionally broad to allow for our team members' growth within their role. These ranges were determined by a market-based compensation approach; we used data from trusted third-party compensation sources to set equitable, consistent and competitive ranges. We also evaluate compensation bi-annually, identify any changes in the market and make adjustments to our ranges and existing employee compensation as needed.
Base pay is only one element of an employee's total compensation at Sprout. Every Sprout team member has an opportunity to receive restricted stock units (RSUs) under Sprout’s equity plan. Employees (and their dependents) are covered by medical, dental, vision, basic life, accidental death, and dismemberment insurance, and Modern Health (a wellness benefit). Employees are able to enroll in Sprout’s company’s 401k plan, in which Sprout will match 50% of your contributions up to 6% with a maximum contribution. Sprout offers “Flexible Paid Time Off” and ten paid holidays.
