Future House Studios is seeking an Unreal Lighting Artist for a fast-paced, exciting, and cutting-edge project. Future House Studios develops animation, games and virtual reality for various high-end clients. If you are ready to work on amazing projects with industry veterans - Join us!
Please note that although this position is remote - being able to work in a local time zone(s) is preferred.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the creation of lighting effects for real-time, in game experience
- Help guide the look and feel of lighting for each scene, and develop stylistic consistency for all maps and environments
- Place and adjust light sources as needed
- Oversee and optimize shots for performance in real-time and rendering
- Tweak shading materials and textures to improve lighting
- Offer creative solutions to technical challenges.
- Responsible for a variety of aspects of real-time production, from managing files, blueprints, and assets
- Work in-engine and own both the technical and creative problem spaces
- Work with the Lead Artist and Art Director to achieve the best look possible
- Collaborate closely with the design, animation and art teams to create exciting, eye-catching and realistic visuals
Necessary Skills and Experience:
- At least 3+ years of experience in Unreal Engine (UE)
- Expert knowledge of in-engine lighting techniques and working with physically based rendering in UE4
- Experience and familiarity with UE5 and other 3D lighting and rendering software
- Capable of generating light-maps, pre-lighting, or baked lighting
- Knowledge of lighting with a Physically Based Rendering (PBR) workflow
- Strong sense of lighting theory including color space, exposure, light fixtures, natural light, reflections
- Skilled at balancing visual quality against performance requirements
- Experience with both real-time and static lighting set-ups
- Knowledge of Forward and Deferred Rendering as it relates to lighting
- Ability to take directions and adaptable to change
- Experience at improvising and problem-solving
- Comfortable with delivering on an expedited schedule
- Able to adapt when changes are required, and manage and organize work priorities to still meet all deadlines
- A current portfolio/website demonstrating ability that includes Unreal-based work is a must
Plus Skills:
- Shipped titles using Unreal Engine
- Excellent artistic skills, with a strong emphasis on real-world lighting/photography
- A passion for video games and real-time technology
- Knowledge and understanding of other parts of the production pipeline (Modeling, Texturing, Rendering, Animation, etc.)
- Knowledge of lighting for VR is major plus
- Has access to a high-quality workstation capable of fast rendering and light-baking
