Staff Software Engineer - Frontend
Job Overview:
Coursera is expanding its India Development Center, and this is a unique opportunity to be part of the founding team for our enterprise charter. We're seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to join the Enterprise Acquisition team, which owns the Tier-1 applications and services powering critical online purchase flows in Coursera's enterprise contract product — including discovery, checkout, payments, taxes, and invoicing.
As a technical leader on this team, you'll bring strong frontend engineering expertise, a product mindset, and a bias for action to build scalable, performant web experiences. You’ll influence system architecture, mentor engineers, and play a key role in shaping the user experience of products that directly drive Coursera’s enterprise revenue.
This is a high-impact role ideal for engineers who thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments and are passionate about building robust, user-facing systems from the ground up.
What You’ll Do:
Lead design and implementation of scalable, performant, and accessible frontend applications in a complex and evolving ecosystem.
Drive architectural decisions and long-term technical strategy for key enterprise flows such as contract checkout, invoicing, and self-serve purchases.
Work cross-functionally with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and solution architects to deliver end-to-end features.
Champion engineering excellence by introducing best practices for frontend quality, performance, security, and reliability.
Write clean, modular code using ReactJS (or similar frameworks), and guide the team in following standards around testing (unit, integration, and e2e).
Act as a mentor and technical sounding board for engineers on the team and across the organization.
Lead technical reviews, RFC discussions, and documentation efforts to scale shared understanding and drive alignment.
Use metrics and A/B testing to measure impact, guide decisions, and iterate on product improvements.
Basic Qualifications:
10+ years of professional experience in frontend engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior or staff-level role.
Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern web frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue).
Proven experience in architecting and scaling large, complex frontend applications.
Strong fundamentals in accessibility, responsive design, frontend performance, and browser compatibility.
Deep understanding of frontend build systems, state management, and testing frameworks.
Experience leading cross-functional projects, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering excellence across teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in early-stage environments or greenfield product development.
Prior contributions to contract-based enterprise platforms or e-commerce flows (checkout, payments, invoicing).
Demonstrated success in scaling 0→1 products in ambiguity-rich environments.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple time zones and functions.
