Staff Content Designer - Benefits & HR Apps
About the Role:
As we’ve grown over the years, we’ve learned that successful small businesses do more than run payroll and track time. They offer great benefits, build incredible handbooks, train amazing managers, and help their employees save for retirement. That’s where you come in! We’re looking for a seasoned Content Designer to drive this vision and support our Benefits and HR products. You’ll partner with product teams on the highest priority features and ship customer-facing products. You’ll drive customer-facing UI copy, content hierarchies, user flows, and information architecture. You’ll partner with PMs, Designers, Engineering Leaders, Researchers, and Data Scientists to learn and iterate. You’ll partner with Design Leadership to chart the vision and roadmap for these two exciting areas. And above all else, you’ll create experiences that are delightful to use, easy to understand, and hugely valuable for thousands of small business owners.
Beyond that, you’ll also have the opportunity to advance Content Design at the company level. If it aligns with your career goals, you can contribute to our design system, run Content Design workshops, and help influence our discipline-wide engagement model.
About the Team:
At Gusto, we're dedicated to simplifying the complex world of business operations. As a powerful People Platform, we offer a comprehensive suite of essential products including payroll, benefits, time tracking and more, all designed to streamline processes and empower businesses to thrive. Our commitment to world-class customer experience sets us apart.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
Proactively gather context on product roadmaps across your scope, and prioritize the initiatives where you’ll have the most impact.
Ship customer-facing UI content, content hierarchies, user flows, and information architectures. You’ll do this independently in some cases, but mostly by pairing with cross-functional partners across product design, product management, and engineering.
Collaborate with design leaders to set UX direction at the feature and product level.
Work with growth teams to make sure Gusto’s voice and key messages are cohesive across marketing and in-app touchpoints.
Support cross-functional teams in refining their own UI content and learning basic content design skills.
Here’s what we're looking for:
Breadth of impact: You should have demonstrated experience prioritizing your focus across a number of opportunities, and be able to articulate how you made prioritization and tradeoff decisions.
Builder mindset: The person in this role will ship customer-facing products, not just documentation and frameworks. You should have examples of features you played a key role in designing and shipping. Ideally you can demonstrate how you iterated on the content quality of these features over time.
High quality bar: This role will be a tireless advocate for our customers’ experience with Gusto. You should be able to demonstrate how you’ve championed content quality across an organization, and improved teams’ content skills and ways of working.
Comprehensive content toolkit: The person in this role will do more than UI writing. You should have a well-rounded content design practice, ideally including aspects of information architecture, UX design (especially information hierarchies and user flows), and evaluative research. You should be able to demonstrate how you’ve had structural and strategic impact on your past projects.
At Gusto, we strive to provide rewards that empower employees to achieve their financial and personal goals. We offer competitive compensation packages with a strong emphasis on equity based compensation (ownership in Gusto). To learn more about Gusto’s compensation philosophy and benefits offerings please view our Total Rewards Approach page.
Our cash compensation range for this role is $147,000/yr to $183,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $179,000/yr to $221,000/yr in San Francisco, Seattle & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
