Sr. Engineering Manager, Observability
Pinterest is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Observability teams. The Observability teams at Pinterest are responsible for our in-house built Observability function that all of Engineering relies on for alerting, monitoring, dashboarding, and analytics storing over 2 billion metrics per minute.
What you’ll do:
Serve as the technical and people leader for Observability teams, managing ICs and Managers.
Innovate and improve the current solution and build new capabilities to continue supporting the business.
Partner with XFN leaders and Product Management to define new capabilities and scale the impact of your teams. Collaborate closely with XFN/X-org partners to align on shared goals and responsibilities for delivering on foundations OKRs and org goals.
Create a healthy culture of clear expectations, career development, succession strategy and skills redundancy throughout the team.
Build the team by hiring great talent and developing the leadership abilities of employees in the organization.
Act as part of the IMOC (Incident Management On Call) rotation for Pinterest Tech Foundations.
Ensure high availability, scalability, and efficiency of observability function while delivering on new capabilities leveraging ML/GenAI.
What we’re looking for:
3+ years of experience managing through other managers with staff/senior staff IC direct reports.
Hands-on experience working with and delivering observability capabilities. Our solution is in-house but is similar in capability to industry tooling such as Cloud Trail, Data Dog, Splunk etc.
Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly with various stakeholders outside of the Infrastructure domain. You can speak tech but can also level-up communications with non-tech audiences.
Experience owning/operating tier-0 critical infrastructure with a geographically distributed footprint.
Bonus points for:
Building and operating an in-house observability platform
Experience with time-series databases
Experience integrating ML/GenAI into Observability tooling/capabilities
