We are looking for a Sr. Counsel, Privacy to join our Legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will focus on driving, improving, building, and managing our privacy compliance program and processes in view of a rapidly changing regulatory environment.
What you’ll be doing:
Compliance:
Advising on and ensuring compliance with global data privacy laws and regulations, including CCPA, state privacy legislation, GDPR, and other relevant laws and industry standards
Monitoring and interpreting evolving privacy legislation and regulatory requirements
Policy and Data Governance:
Drafting and updating consumer facing terms, including privacy notices, representations, settings, FAQs, terms of service, and other policies and UI features related to user data
Develop, implement, and maintain privacy policies, procedures, and standards for the company
Privacy by Design:
Collaborating with product and engineering teams to integrate privacy considerations into the design and development of new products and features, providing practical and business-oriented legal advice to internal business teams
Reviewing and maintaining records of processing activities and conducting privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs)
Advising internal clients on development, collection, use, transfer and governance of user data and identifying potential privacy or other regulatory risks
Advocacy and Negotiation:
Serving as a point of contact for privacy inquiries from end users, vendors, partners, and other stakeholders
Reviewing and negotiating data processing agreements and privacy terms in a variety of other agreements
As a member of a very small (and enthusiastic!) legal team, you may also be asked to draft, review and negotiate vendor contracts, commercial contracts, and contracts with strategic partners where required, and/or handle other legal matters.
Qualifications to be successful in this role:
5+ years of firm and/or in-house experience
A Juris Doctor degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and membership in at least one state bar
Accreditation from the IAPP - Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US at a minimum)
Prior in-house experience with a high growth, fast moving digital company
Experience in privacy law, preferably with experience in a digital consumer-facing industry

You are a critical and strategic thinker with excellent judgment who shows initiative and enjoys solving complex problems
You have strong business acumen with a track record of providing guidance and risk-appropriate, solutions-oriented advice
You have strong organizational and interpersonal skills and you enjoy and can work effectively cross functionally with teams

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at MyFitnessPal ranges from $170,000 - $230,000. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, MyFitnessPal offers a wide range of comprehensive and inclusive employee benefits for this role including healthcare, parental planning, mental health benefits, annual performance bonus, a 401(k) plan and match, responsible time off, monthly wellness and technology allowances, and others.
