The Developer Experience teams optimize the development process within Figma, enabling our engineers to build the future as fast as they can imagine it. We have two teams focusing on this problem space, and are looking for experienced technical leaders for each that will help shape our long-term roadmap and uplevel the team through mentorship.
The Build Systems team is responsible for Figma’s Build and CI infrastructure. We enable developers to ship changes to production quickly and safely by equipping them with best-in-class apps, frameworks, and tools. Our product offering spans build systems, artifact repositories, merge queues, and test frameworks for our polyglot monorepo.
The Environments & Tools team is responsible for Figma’s software development toolchain. We enable developers to write code quickly through fast, stable development environments and various tools. Our products include a remote development environment, an LLM-powered bot, and other tools to develop Figma services faster.
Ideal candidates will have experience working in large-scale monolithic codebases and building scalable, durable platforms and workflows that delight developers. Most importantly, they love building for builders.
This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
What you'll do at Figma:
Design, build, and maintain modern developer tools, such as scalable build systems, CI platforms, and test frameworks.
Lead multi-person, cross-functional projects that result in reliability, efficiency, and cost-savings wins.
Collaborate with customers and leadership to identify developer pain points and systemically fix them.
Keep up-to-date with industry trends and best practices. Incorporate applicable technologies into our roadmap.
Lead by example and actively invest in the success of your teammates.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
6+ years experience in the industry, including 4+ years on Infrastructure, Platform, or Developer Experience teams.
Expert level domain experience in one of the following areas:
Build Systems (e.g. Bazel, Buck, Pants),
CI/CD optimization
Remote Development (e.g. GitHub Codespaces, Gitpod)
Developing and supporting IDE extensions
Strong coding skills with demonstrated proficiency in programming languages, such as Go, TypeScript, Python, Ruby, or similar languages.
Excellent technical communication and relationship-building skills. The ability to achieve successful outcomes with partners ranging from interns to executives.
While it’s not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
Have excellent problem solving skills. You use a systematic and thorough approach. You think from first principles and have a bias for action. Are driven by impact. You are willing to work on grungy problems if they have a high impact on the business or the health of our platform.
Care deeply about the quality of the software / systems you build. You have an artisan mentality and are always looking to improve your craft. At the same time you are able to strike the right balance between idealism and pragmatism.
Finally, Figma is a close-knit company with a strong culture that promotes inclusivity and collaboration, taking ambitious goals and having fun doing so. You deeply value these traits and see yourself actively contributing to it.
At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles
