Senior Backend Engineer - Growth Activation
The Growth Activation Team at Mercury focuses on implementing high-leverage solutions that drive outsized impact for our customer base. Our team builds and refines scalable systems that enhance core feature adoption, allowing startups to grow efficiently and confidently into the products that best suit their business needs.
In this role, you will design and develop backend systems and features that embrace a scientific approach to growth engineering. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to create scalable solutions, driving innovation through rapid testing, iterative learning, and data-driven experimentation.
As a part of the Growth Activation team, you’ll be working on:
Core feature activation: Developing and optimizing systems to ensure the right Mercury features reach the right customers at the right time, driving adoption and product engagement.
Organization inflection points: Focusing on critical inflection points in the pre- and post-approval experience to streamline and improve the customer onboarding and activation experience.
Product led sales infrastructure: Innovating and developing tooling that enable Mercury’s sales and relationship management teams to form deeper, strategic connections with our high-value customer base
The ideal candidate for the role:
Has 5+ years of experience in backend development with a proven track record of building scalable systems
Possesses deep proficiency with SQL and has experience or a strong interest in learning Haskell
Has experience working as a growth engineer or in a data-driven, product-oriented engineering environment
Thrives in navigating ambiguous surface areas autonomously, approaching challenges with the intention of generating impactful, measurable outcomes
Excels at weighing trade-offs and finding creative solutions to complex challenges
Communicates and collaborates effectively with peers and cross functional counterparts

Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.
Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:
US employees (any location): $203,100 - 238,900
Canadian employees (any location): CAD 184,800 – 217,400
