Product Manager
We're looking for an entrepreneurial Product Manager to lead the discovery and definition of key components within our system, driving growth for our partners and enabling them to better support payroll businesses serving tens of thousands of companies and hundreds of thousands of workers. This role requires a leader who is excited to dive deep into our technology stack, learn the ins and outs of payroll and tax systems, and design scalable infrastructure that sets a new standard for reliability and efficiency in the payroll industry. You'll collaborate closely with Check leadership, engineers, internal teams, and our partners to deliver innovative, high-impact products that advance the future of embedded payroll.
In this role, you will:
Collaborate with Check’s Head of Product to define and prioritize projects that drive growth for our partners.
Lead product execution with a bold, opinionated approach, pushing the boundaries of payroll solutions while addressing customer challenges with urgency.
Engage with cross-functional experts from our business, engineering, and payroll operations teams to align on strategic goals.
Connect directly with Check’s partners—software companies across diverse verticals—to understand their daily challenges and identify opportunities for scaling their payroll businesses.
Develop a comprehensive roadmap in partnership with engineering and operations, outlining actionable strategies to empower our partners in growing their payroll capabilities more effectively.
Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have some or all of the following:
2-4 years of product management experience in technology companies serving enterprise businesses.
Experience in complex domains with intricate regulatory and operational requirements; payroll and tax knowledge is a plus.
Proven track record of leading cross-functional product initiatives that deliver significant business impact.
Ability to thrive in high-ambiguity environments, demonstrating adaptability and problem-solving skills.
Dedication to customer needs with a commitment to high-quality execution.
Skills in collaborating with diverse stakeholders to drive alignment and positive outcomes.
Willingness to attend our annual 3-day company offsite in the fall.
Travel and Office Policy
The Check team is distributed across the US and we have offices in New York City and San Francisco. While we welcome remote work, we believe time together in person is valuable and important. We offer ample opportunities and encourage employees to attend team offsites, events, and hackathons a couple of times a year! We expect all employees to be willing to attend our annual 3-day company offsite in the fall.
For our in-office and hybrid employees, our offices are open all week. We provide meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the team hosts regular happy hours, game nights, etc.
What we offer:
For full-time employees, Check offers company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, short-term/long-term disability, and basic life insurance coverage, effective on their first day of work. We also provide stock options, flexible PTO and sick leave, 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all new parents, flexible return-to-work, 9 annual holidays, a 401k retirement plan, and a $100 monthly stipend for home internet and mobile phone expenses.
