Principal Marketing Designer
ClassDojo's goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love.
We started by building a powerful network for communication. ClassDojo’s flagship app is the #1 communication app connecting K-8 teachers, children, and families globally. Teachers use it to share what’s happening throughout the day through photos, videos, and messages that make parents feel like they’re there. It’s actively used in over 95% of US schools, reaching over 50 million children in 180 countries, with a team of just around 200 people [1]. We are now beginning to use this network to give kids the best learning experiences in the world, far beyond those a standard school can provide.
We hire for talent density. Our team comprises the most talented, entrepreneurial, and innovative teammates from around the world, with experience in education and large scale consumer internet companies, including Instagram, Netflix, Dropbox, Stripe, Uber, Y Combinator, and more. We’re building a company where the most talented people want to work. We believe you’ll do the best work of your life here—and you’ll pioneer the future of education, too.
What you’ll do:
You will be responsible for leading design across all of our marketing and brand work. That includes overseeing the design of everything from new webpages to product launches to email campaigns, minisites, and everything in between. You’ll be expected to fluidly work across desktop and mobile web, email, in-app modals, as well as occasional printed collateral and conference booth design. You will be supported by a small team to help with the day-to-day design execution across all of our work.
We’re looking for an exceptional hands-on leader who will primarily lead by doing. You’ll be expected to set an extremely high bar for creativity, performance, detail orientation, and speed of execution.
Your work will help us build and define the education brand of the future — on par with category defining brands like Disney, LEGO, and Duolingo.
Requirements for this role:
10+ years of experience across any combination of design, art direction, and creative direction leadership roles.
Portfolio of inspiring work for category defining brands that showcases your ability to innovate, craft a singular aesthetic, create compelling marketing experiences, and ship supremely well crafted work.
Comfortable working from fuzzy problems and ambitious goals through broad design exploration, narrower iteration, to pixel perfect final shipped experience.
Comfortable working in a fast paced environment with broad autonomy and ownership.
Important skills and experience for this role:
Hands-on design leader that can span concepting, exploration, and execution across mediums with a focus on digital marketing (web and email).
Proven experience on world-class teams building category defining brands.
Strong taste and design instincts that balance simplicity and timelessness with creativity and a desire to create something singular (one-of-one).
Well rounded experience across web, email, print, and other mediums like animation, motion design, 3D, or other visual design spikes.
Extreme attention to detail. Your final designs are flawlessly executed and tend to leave no details unconsidered or unrefined.
Ability to balance speed and urgency with iterative refinement. Especially the ability to move between speed and craft interchangeably as needed.
Experience overseeing and ideally managing a team of designers with an emphasis on pushing their work creatively as a strong thought partner.
You lead by example—first leading yourself well, being self-managing, low maintenance, and self-improving.
Strong fundamentals in color, typography, composition, hierarchy, layout, and subtle details that add up to a refined end aesthetic.
Aesthetically you’re attracted to brands and products like:
Linear
Rivian
Teenage Engineering
Stripe & Stripe Press
Apple
Cash App
Airbnb
Tesla
Chobani
