The Principal DevOps Engineer is a great opportunity with Johnson Controls to develop the next generation of physical security solutions! Your role will have a large impact, as the technology you develop will be used to protect people, facilities, and assets, at scale – around the world. You will be using the latest cutting-edge IoT and cloud technologies to power the next-generation of physical access control and video surveillance solutions for Johnson Controls. You will be working with a talented team of architects, product managers, software, hardware, and QA engineers. You will play a critical role in architecting cloud solutions, ensuring security, and driving collaboration within the team. We are looking for a seasoned DevOps leader with experience architecting and deploying complex systems in the cloud; someone that can spearhead the delivery of cloud solutions on both Azure and AWS. We need a hands-on architect that has experience building scalable and robust infrastructures that meet the highest security standards.
In this role, you'll lead a team of DevOps engineers, driving collaboration and efficiency amidst evolving requirements and technologies. You must be motivated to solve unique problems and you must have experience using various IaC technologies to automate the deployment of the infrastructure. This role is remote, but candidates must be able to work Eastern time zone hours.
How you will do it
Lead and mentor a team of DevOps engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement while prioritizing their work assignments.
·Architect, implement, and maintain cloud-based infrastructure and automation tools to support continuous integration and continuous delivery.
Evaluate, select, and implement appropriate tools and technologies to enhance our DevOps processes, improve efficiency, and streamline workflows.
Troubleshoot issues with performance, reliability, and availability and perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.
Implement monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the health, performance, and availability of our systems. Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and optimize infrastructure for scalability and reliability.
Collaborate with cyber security teams to implement and maintain best practices for security, privacy, compliance, and data protection across our infrastructure and applications. Follow and enforce corporate cyber security policies.
Work closely with cross-functional teams including architecture, software engineering, QA, product management, and IT to ensure alignment of DevOps initiatives with business objectives and priorities.
Document infrastructure configurations, processes, and best practices. Promote knowledge sharing within the team and across the organization. Set the standards for code quality and review pull requests (PRs) of team members.
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in DevOps and cloud infrastructure. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance our DevOps practices and capabilities.
What we look for
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
10+ years experience in the broader software field
6+ years in DevOps, SRE or related rol
2+ years experience building and deploying containers into Kubernetes clusters
Experience architecting systems for performance, reliability and availability
Hands-on experience with both Azure and AWS
Experience building CI/CD pipelines using various tools such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps Pipelines, ArgoCD, Jenkins, etc.
Proficiency in infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and Ansible
Comfortable using Git with various workflows and branching strategies
Strong scripting and automation skills using languages such as Bash, PowerShell or Python
Preferred
Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Experience with both Linux and Windows
Experience with observability tools and platforms such as the Elastic Stack, PLG Stack, Prometheus, Datadog, Dynatrace, Logz.io, Azure Monitor, Splunk, Jaeger, Zipkin, etc.
Solid understanding of computer networks including private subnets, VPNs, DNS, TCP/UDP, multicast, TLS, PKI certificates, firewalls, load balancers, proxy servers, reverse proxies, API gateways, Virtual IPs, NAT, IPv6, etc.
Experience ensuring compliance with standards such as SOC2, FIPS, ISO 27001, FedRamp, GDPR, HIPAA, etc.
Certification in Kubernetes, computer networking, security or any cloud platforms
