In this role, you will leverage your advanced data skills to uncover, understand, and resolve complex and high-profile business challenges. In direct collaboration with other Zepz teams and our external partner network, you will play a crucial part in achieving both positive financial results for Zepz and an improved payments experience for our users.
About the team:
This is a cross-functional team made up of data analysts, accountants, and operations managers. Its scope reaches beyond performing traditional financial reconciliations to cover upstream partner data procurement and analysis, downstream investigations of mismatched records, and cross-org engagement to fix root causes of reconciliation breaks. This team’s core mission is to ensure that we accurately represent money owed to or from partners in our financial statements. It is the ultimate backstop to make sure Zepz is doing right by every user in paying out their funds and getting back money we’re owed to further invest in our business. It prevents losses by quickly surfacing errors in our payments processes before they compound and works cross-functionally and with external partners to ensure timely investigation and resolution of problems.
What you will own:
Independent data analysis: Writing SQL queries and creating dashboards to support in identifying, strategically investigating, and easily tracking losses
Investigation and resolution: Running investigations into all mismatched transactions internally and / or externally with our partners and resolving transactions to their accurate statuses
Loss prevention: Minimizing business and user losses by identifying and resolving the root causes creating them
Loss disputes: Disputing losses with external partners based on data-driven analysis
Early loss detection: Working with product and engineering teams to develop mechanisms to detect and investigate potential losses faster
What you bring to the table:
Skill Requirements:
2+ years in a data-focused role:
You have advanced SQL and data querying expertise - you have built at least 20 data products via dashboards or automated sheets; you can run advanced queries (nested and sub queries)
You easily develop comfort with main databases, tables and how they interplay
You excel at pattern recognition and when given multiple tables of data can identify what’s relevant, join the tables, create views, clean the data, and then use that data to build frontend dashboards at a high level
You have used SQL to eliminate manual work
Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to drive results cross-functionally
You have experience running cross-functional projects that use data to directly resolve business problems or achieve business goals
You can easily analyze large, complex datasets and pull out the trends and implications
You have experience documenting and presenting your findings in an accurate, straightforward manner so that important takeaways can be easily understood by other teams and senior leadership
You have third-party relationship management experience, and a natural ability to build rapport and collaborate to successful outcomes with senior external stakeholders and internal colleagues
Working style:
You are comfortable + excited to work asynchronously + independently in a remote team environment. The broader Financial Reconciliation team and Zepz team span a multitude of time zones, and we are not all online together at the same time. Your Manager is currently based in Spain
You are a detail-oriented self-starter who takes initiative, self-manages, and requires little day-to-day direction to be successful
You don’t stop asking “why” until you understand the root cause of an issue. You develop solutions from first principles – “what is the best way to do this” rather than defaulting to what has been done before
You are results-driven and not afraid to roll up your sleeves to get things done no matter the task
You are a world-class prioritizer - you can quickly take a long list of priorities and stack rank them based on what’s most important to do first, and why. You are comfortable putting tasks on the back burner, so you can focus on the highest impact work
You are comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-paced, and quickly changing contexts
Bonus points if you have:
Experience investigating and disputing reconciliation issues
Advanced Mode + DataBricks experience
Blackline experience
Experience working at a payments or fintech company
Experience working in a remote, fast-paced, nimble environment (e.g., startup, remote company)
Fluent in Spanish and / or French
