Manager, Software Engineering - Search Platform
Search technology underpins several recent Figma product innovations, such as visual search in the new Figma AI bundle. The Search Platform team aims to accelerate new search feature development by providing a flexible, configurable indexing solution allowing any team to index any content. The team will abstract away search cluster resource creation and management complexity, providing infrastructure-level SLO guarantees and out-of-the-box observability. The team will partner with Figma’s Search Experience team, and various other product teams across Figma, to leverage the search platform to build optimal search experiences.
This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
What you'll do at Figma:
Hire, manage, support and develop a team of engineers who design and build scalable services to power Figma’s search platform and infrastructure.
Build and execute on a long-term roadmap to evolve and scale Search platform capabilities
Partner with engineering leadership to set strategy, priorities, and mission for teams and projects.
Establish trust within and across teams by creating accountability and a positive work environment in partnership with other leaders in the organization.
Grow your career in an engaged and creative engineering community
Figma is committed to building an inclusive and diverse team and culture. We expect all of our leaders to play a role in helping to build and drive these initiatives through hiring, community events, and other programs in partnership with teams across all of Figma.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
2+ years of experience managing and leading a high output engineering team
5+ years experience building and scaling distributed systems as a leader and/or individual contributor
Strong expertise in OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, Solr, or other search engine technologies, with experience managing such search clusters at scale to serve production-facing traffic.
Experience with designing and managing scalable, high-performance, and reliable search infrastructure. Knowledge of search algorithms, indexing, and query processing.
Skills in optimizing search performance and reducing time-to-index latency. Familiarity with indexing and caching strategies, load balancing, and other performance-enhancing techniques.
Demonstrated leadership skills in building a high-performing and highly engaged engineering team. Proven track record of motivating, mentoring, and guiding senior engineers.
While it’s not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
A history of solving difficult engineering problems with novel, custom solutions
Experience evangelizing innovative, internal infrastructure and developer tools
At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
