Lead UX Designer

Our platforms, Miacademy for K-8 and MiaPrep for high school students, are designed to cater to diverse educational needs, including those of kids with learning disabilities. As we continue to grow, we're looking for a dynamic Lead UX Designer to join our team and drive our user experience to new heights.
How you'll make an impact:
As the Lead UX Designer, you'll be at the forefront of creating exceptional digital learning experiences. You'll establish and optimize UX processes, lead design initiatives, and mentor our UX team to deliver intuitive, engaging, and accessible educational platforms. Your work will directly influence how students interact with our products, enhancing their learning journey and contributing to our mission of empowering children through education. In this role, you will be the most senior member of our UX design team.
What You'll Do:
UX Strategy and Operations
Develop and execute a UX strategy aligned with our educational mission and business goals
Establish UX processes and metrics to measure the team's impact and effectiveness
Analyze metrics to drive continuous improvement of UX practices and processes
Prioritize UX initiatives based on user value, business objectives, and impact/effort estimations
Lead the creation and evolution of our design system for design efficiency and consistency across products
Design Leadership and Collaboration
Mentor the UX team, fostering innovation, continuous learning, and a focus on measurable outcomes
Encourage the team to challenge assumptions and solve problems by breaking them down systematically
Conduct design reviews and ensure high standards of usability and accessibility
Advocate for user needs in product strategy discussions
Collaborate with product managers and engineers to deliver cohesive user experiences
Communicate design decisions effectively to stakeholders at all levels
Balance exceptional UX with technical feasibility and delivery timelines
Research and Insights
Plan and conduct user research to inform design decisions
Lead the creation and ongoing maintenance of user personas, journey maps, and other UX artifacts

You may be a good fit if you have (requirements):
5+ years of UX design experience, with a focus on digital product design
Proven track record of designing successful digital products or features that align with business objectives
Experience leading UX initiatives and mentoring design teams
Strong portfolio showcasing your design process, problem-solving skills, and results
Expertise in UX research methodologies and design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD)
Experience in creating high-quality design deliverables, including wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about user experience
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
What makes you stand out (nice-to-haves):
Experience in EdTech or designing for educational products
Knowledge of accessibility standards and designing for users with diverse needs
Understanding of child development stages and their implications for digital learning interface design
Background in education or understanding of learning principles
Experience in hiring and performance management for UX roles
Experience in contributing to and improving design systems and best practices
