About the team
Our Mobile Engineering organization plays a pivotal role in enhancing the experience of our 2 million subscribers through our Everand and Scribd mobile apps, each of which is available on both iOS and Android platforms. The Everand app is a gateway for our users to access an expansive library of over 7 million titles, including ebooks, audiobooks, podcasts, and magazine articles. Meanwhile, the Scribd app provides access to an extensive collection of over 100 million user-uploaded documents, including PDFs and other formats.
About the role
Reporting to our Senior Manager for Mobile Engineering, you will manage a cross-platform team of mobile engineers (iOS and Android), with accountability for their career development as well as the success of their projects. In addition, you will collaborate with the Senior Manager and other engineering leaders on engineering excellence, in particular around quality, performance, and engineering velocity. You will collaborate with the Senior Manager and the mobile engineers on how to modernize our technology and manage technical debt, and with our product design and product management teams on how to continuously improve the experience of our users.
Required Skills
Manage, coach and mentor your ICs by having regular 1:1s and building strong relationships.
Enable them to be self aware by providing genuine feedback.
Inculcate industry standard software engineering best practices across your teams.
Collaborate with recruiters to hire and build a diverse team of talented engineers that are meeting the growing business needs.
Remove obstacles in execution by effective communication, leadership and lean processes.
Ensure our mobile engineers are building a platform in the best ways, with the best tools.
Ensure the mobile engineers are demonstrating ownership and accountability on their platforms stability, observability, delivery & incident response.
Contribute to build tooling and developer productivity.
Deep background in at least one of the mobile platforms (iOS or Android).Ability to organize and manage large, complex, multi-month software projects that span multiple teams.
Ability to engage in deep technical discussions around software architecture and technology choices.
Professional experience with multiple programming languages and platforms.
Requirements
8-10 years of experience building and delivering software products.
At least 2 years of experience as a manager.
A working knowledge of building native mobile applications on iOS and/or AndroidExperience building native mobile applications on at least one major mobile platform.
Experience collaborating with designers, product managers, and other engineering leaders.
A history of growing teams and building leaders.

At Scribd, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package and is determined within a range. Our pay ranges are based on the local cost of labor benchmarks for each specific role, level, and geographic location. San Francisco is our highest geographic market in the United States. In the state of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $156,500 [minimum salary in our lowest geographic market within California] to $273,000 [maximum salary in our highest geographic market within California].
In the United States, outside of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $129,000 [minimum salary in our lowest US geographic market outside of California] to $240,250 [maximum salary in our highest US geographic market outside of California].
In Canada, the reasonably expected salary range is between $162,000 CAD[minimum salary in our lowest geographic market] to $239,750 CAD[maximum salary in our highest geographic market].
We carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including but not limited to experience; job-related skill sets; relevant education or training; and other business and organizational needs. The salary range listed is for the level at which this job has been scoped. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for a competitive equity ownership, and a comprehensive and generous benefits package.
