Engineering Manager
At JWP x Connatix, the VOD (Video on Demand) team powers one of the core pillars of our media delivery platform. Every day, this team ensures seamless playback, reliable encoding workflows, and robust infrastructure for millions of videos delivered daily across the globe.
The team is composed of two key groups:
VOD Taskforce: A focused group of engineers building strategic new functionality and developing product features alongside a dedicated product manager.
VOD Core: A larger subteam responsible for maintaining and enhancing our video delivery and video management stack, while supporting other internal teams in enabling new video-driven capabilities.
Together, these two groups form one of the largest engineering teams within our organization, composed of ~9 engineers spanning Europe and the US.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a technically experienced and people-oriented Engineering Manager to lead the VOD team. You’ll play a key role in shaping the team’s culture, technical direction, and execution strategy. This role offers a chance to support high-impact systems, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and grow a team of talented engineers.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of managing engineering teams for 2 or more years at the same company and brings a mindset of stability, growth, and technical empathy. We’re looking for someone who values long-term collaboration over short-term career hopping.
As an Engineering Manager, you will:
Lead, mentor, and support a team of 9 engineers across two subgroups (VOD Taskforce & VOD Core)
Collaborate with product managers, P&E leaders, and stakeholders to prioritize roadmaps and align with company goals
Drive the development of scalable video delivery solutions with a balance of new features and technical enhancements
Guide career development and performance for team members
Cultivate a culture of innovation, ownership, trust, and continuous improvement
Ensure technical excellence through code quality, architecture discussions, and process improvements
Represent the team in cross-functional planning and communication
Requirements for the Role
Several years of experience leading software engineering teams, including at least two years of sustained leadership within the same organization.
Recent or past hands-on coding experience (we value leaders who understand the technical challenges their teams face).
Strong communication skills and a proven ability to guide and support teams in a remote-first environment.
Experience in backend systems design, cloud architecture, and ideally some exposure to video delivery technologies.
Demonstrated ability to lead and support distributed teams, balancing project delivery with mentorship and team development.
Bonus Points
Familiarity with our tech stack: Python, Kubernetes, Datadog, RabbitMQ, RDBMS/SQL, AWS, CDNs, Docker / Linux containers, microservice architecture
Experience with video on-demand platforms or media delivery systems
Interest in supporting large-scale systems and performance optimization
