Engineering Manager - Growth
About the Role:
As a software engineering manager for the Payroll Onboarding Team, you’ll empower a team of 5+ engineers making the flow simple and easy for companies new to Gusto, whether they’re a brand new business running their first ever payroll, or they’re moving hundreds of employees to Gusto. You’ll collaborate with your team’s product and design leads, as well as partners across sales, marketing, and customer success to drive iteration and innovation for one of the first and most important user experiences at Gusto.
About the Team:
The Payroll Onboarding team owns the front door for all small businesses signing up for Gusto. Setting up payroll is both a huge step for a new business and a complicated, potentially scary multi-step process. The team is tasked with leveraging technologies like OCR and AI to build a human centric onboarding flow that reduces the manual work and provides businesses with a joyful first payroll experience.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
Build and foster an inclusive, collaborative, and impact-oriented culture
Conduct regular 1:1s with your team members to support their continued growth and learning
Collaborate with our product management and design teams to define problem spaces and lead technical projects from initial planning, execution, to final delivery
Partner with Product, Design, Data and others within and outside your team
Help build and manage team processes and create a culture that enables the team to do its best work
Provide and receive mentorship and peer support
Here’s what we're looking for:
8+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in B2B software and/or growth engineering
At least 2 years empowering engineering teams
Preference for experience building and maintaining onboarding funnels, checkout flows, or other complex multi-step workflows
Experience managing and mentoring a software development team
Ability to work iteratively with data and experimentation driven development, and a record of driving impact reflected in metrics and customer sentiment
Experience working cross functionally with product, design, data, sales, support, and marketing
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $170,000-$202,000 in Denver, $185,000-$219,000 for Los Angeles and most remote locations, $199,000-$247,000 for San Francisco, New York, and Seattle. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience, level, and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
