Engineering Manager - Ads Targeting Modeling

The team’s main mission is to build a targeting platform that would be responsible for creating and defining shared standards, low-latency infrastructure, and libraries for all Ads Targeting initiatives that drive quicker iteration, better observability, and a unified targeting experience. In addition to managing the targeting infrastructure, this team is also tasked with overseeing third-party audience products, developing audience size forecasting infrastructure, and implementing solutions for user targeting privacy.
Some example projects that the team will own:
Design, optimize and build a distributed data storage system for indexing, caching, and serving terabytes of user and post data for ad serving and audience size forecasting.
Design and build offline and online ML serving frameworks to bring ML models into production
Scale our real-time ad candidate retrieval and filtering system hosted within the ad server with high QPS and low latency.
Design, build and improve an observability tool for the targeting funnel that would produce business and engineering metrics.
Design, build and improve experimentation tooling for targeting product launches
Design and build a third-party API for custom audience generation integrations
Your Responsibilities:
Lead, hire, and grow a high-caliber team of backend and ML infra engineers
Develop, drive, and execute the technical vision and roadmap for the targeting infrastructure
Be responsible for building Reddit Ads’ next generation of targeting infrastructure
Coach and mentor engineers on the team to further their professional development
Set and enforce a high-quality bar for code, system design, and verbal/written communication
Be a strong mentor and cross-functional advocate for your team
Who You Might Be:
6+ years of experience building low latency real-time services infrastructures, big data pipelines, search clusters, distributed data stores
2+ years of experience tech leading or managing engineering team
Strong track record of defining direction, driving execution, working with cross-functional teams, and delivering impacts for a team
Passion for growing people and building team
Effective communicator who can translate complex technical concepts into simple ideas depending on the audience
Experience with the Ads business domain is a big plus
Experience with OpenSearch, DynamoDB, Airflow, and Spark is a big plus
