About the Finance Team
The Director of Tax will be reporting to the VP, Controller. The Finance team has grown into various strategic pillars - Controllers, Financial Planning & Analysis, Treasury, and Corporate Development. This role will require deep partnership and collaboration with key stakeholders in Finance and serve as a strategic advisor to the organization.
About the Director of Tax Role
The Director of Tax is responsible for overseeing the tax function within the organization. This role ensures compliance with all tax laws and regulations, manages tax planning and strategy, and provides leadership and guidance to the tax team. The Director of Tax will work closely with senior management to develop and implement tax strategies that align with the company’s business objectives and optimize its tax position.
As a Director of Tax, you will:
Develop and execute tax strategies, identifying areas for tax efficiencies and make recommendations that are compliant with tax laws and regulations.
Provide strategic tax advice on acquisitions, divestitures, and other investment opportunities.
Provide tax support to Finance, Legal, and PeopleOps teams on employee and corporate matters, contracts with third parties, investment structures as well as other requests that arise.
Take a lead role in managing the tax compliance and tax authority audits for our entities.
Oversee the preparation of tax provisions and disclosures in financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.
Identify and manage tax risks associated with the company’s operations and investments.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
Produce memos, letters, emails, correspondence, and reports tailored to the audience, effectively communicating in technical, business, and plain language as necessary.
Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the organization, providing strategic guidance to senior management.
What you Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
10+ years of progressive tax experience, including managerial experience. Experience in a similar role within a large corporation or public accounting firm is highly desirable.
In-depth knowledge of Canadian income tax and indirect tax laws and regulations.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
