Director of Marketing
The Role
Metalab ships products loved by billions worldwide, influencing how we work, live, and play. Chances are, you've interacted with many products we've helped shape. Now, we need your expertise to craft the future.
The person for this role will be part tastemaker and taskmaster – balancing the ability to be both big picture visionary and creative thinker alongside high detailed data-driven optimization, reporting and insights. You understand the impact of powerful storytelling as much as you understand the importance of data. You’re a self-starter who can comfortably wear many different hats in order to get the job done. You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and execute – while also leading a team and overseeing the big picture strategy. Our word-of-mouth reputation has gotten us pretty far, but your job would be to evolve and scale the brand in ways that tactically result in greater awareness, new business, and strong hires.
Your responsibilities
Steward of the Metalab brand, translating this into brand-building opportunities and tactical marketing strategies that drive results.
Own the overall marketing vision, planning, execution, and budget.
Manage and roll out marketing and brand awareness strategies from concept to execution to measurement, including campaigns, events, digital marketing, social media, and PR.
Lead and grow a marketing team handpicked to tell engaging stories through design and content about what we do and how we do it; ensuring their deliverables ladder up to our strategies and goals while executing alongside them in order to deliver it.
Ability to report on and assess marketing performance and campaign effectiveness with data-driven insights, attribution, and analytics.
Immerse yourself in Metalab's history, portfolio, and client work to uncover the best stories to tell and content to share.
Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management (executive leadership, design, engineering, business development).
Ability to consistently report on marketing performance and attribution.
Develop and manage a network of freelancers and suppliers.
The must-haves
Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, communications, or deep industry experience.
8-10+ years of proven experience in marketing and brand building, preferably in consumer technology with a consistent record of developing and implementing successful marketing programs and campaigns.
Digitally native. Strong understanding of the mobile app or technology landscape and ideally experience marketing consumer-facing digital products.
Proven experience building and delivering successful external PR campaigns.
Open-minded, highly adaptable, and unafraid to advocate for what you believe in and the team you manage.
Strong communicator – will have to work with many different stakeholders and departments, along with a marketing team of varying roles.
Solution-oriented, proactive, and comfortable wrangling ambiguity into clearly defined paths forward.
Highly creative and experienced in devising targeted digital campaigns that perform.
Strong analytical skills with experience defining and monitoring progress toward data-driven goals.
Ability to manage many projects of varied sizes across multiple lines of business
Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in digital marketing social, and brand building.
Proven experience delivering effective and innovative digital campaigns.
Proven track record of success in senior marketing roles delivering tangible results with a direct impact on the bottom line.
Self-starter entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to spot, problem solve, and execute on opportunities.
Not an asshole — big egos need not apply. You value your team’s success as much as your own.
Location & Working Hours
Our philosophy is simple: We hire people from all over the world. If you have the skills, strong wifi and excitement to work with us, we’d love to hear from you. For this role, we are open to remote candidates located within CST to BRT time zones or folks open to working within those hours.
