About the Role
As we grow the JumpCloud Engineering team, we are hiring a Sr. Software Engineering Director to build and lead new teams in our Software-as-a-Service group. You’ll have the opportunity to play a key role in the success and development of our engineering teams and managers, in addition to growing your own career. We are seeking a senior engineering leader who is passionate about building great products, high performing teams, and the next generation of engineering leaders.
You will be responsible for guiding the engineering teams, managers, and architects reporting to you. You will have influence over our engineering practices in addition to product strategy and execution. You’ll help your teams build out features, help drive architecture, define best practices and enable product quality in an environment of continuous improvement. We’re operating at startup scale and speed, and as a senior engineering leader, you will help guide the way.
To succeed in this role you should have experience leading organizations that deliver and support complex, distributed systems in a production public cloud, with an established track record in developing high performing, geo-distributed customer-facing software, proven technical ability, multi-team project management skills, excellent people development and management skills, and great communication skills with a strong motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.
What you’ll be doing:
Engineering leadership for 1-2 architects, 2-5 engineering managers that combined lead a total of 4-8 agile teams. Each team is composed of Front end engineers, Backend engineers and Quality engineers. Total organization size roughly 25-45.
Responsible for inspiring, hiring, on-boarding and mentoring a diverse remote team of high potential team members.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex issues, their business impact and our options for senior leadership and the executive team.
As an active member of the engineering leadership team, you will partner with your peers and other teams to build, lead, and inspire a world class engineering organization.
Grow and mentor the next generation of architects, engineering managers and senior managers.
Drive reuse of development work, platforming, and consistent technical and architectural direction across projects.
Tactically, provide project leadership and oversight of team activities in your areas of expertise.
Strategically, help define the future of your organization, identify industry trends and practices that, when adopted, will dramatically accelerate team performance and increase organizational capability.
What we are looking for:
10+ years experience leading engineering managers and architects that develop SaaS products running in a public cloud, like AWS, GCP or Azure.
10+ years experience as a software engineer in any industry and in any tech stack.
Hands-on experience working with Agile teams including Scrum.
Experience managing cross functional teams including Dev and Quality engineers.
Proven ability to lead in a fast-moving, team-oriented, collaborative environment
Experience partnering with Product Management, Security, Operations, and User Experience leaders to build the best customer experience.
Track record of continuous improvement through innovation, delivery, process development, quality, etc.
Experience leading and growing geographically diverse engineering teams in today’s remote first work environment.
BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent. Strong technical foundation in software engineering and design principles.
Bonus points if you have:
Background in Identity and Access Management (IAM).
Experience with authentication and authorization protocols such as OAuth, OpenID Connect, RADIUS, SAML, or WebAuthN.
Experience with other Directory services such as LDAP, Active Directory, Google Workspace, or protocols such as SCIM, etc.
