Job Summary
The Director, Data Operations is a strategic and hands-on role, primarily responsible for guiding the data team in the effective management of our data resources and the continuous enhancement of our processes and practices. This role involves overseeing the evaluation of upcoming work, assessing the scope and feasibility of projects, and ensuring timely completion by the team.
The Director, Data Operations, reporting directly to the CIO/CISO, is accountable for ensuring the uptime of our applications and data infrastructure in production, driving workload optimizations, and collaborating closely with the Director of Technology Operations to determine priorities and define plans to achieve both departmental and company goals.
All activities must adhere to Equal Employment Opportunity laws, HIPAA, ERISA, and other relevant regulations.
Essential Functions
Production Environment Management: Oversee a large-scale production environment with multiple workloads at varying cloud maturity levels, ensuring stability, performance, and reliability.
Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages professional growth and development.
Project Guidance: Guide and direct data and data infrastructure projects from conception through execution, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices.
Continuous Improvement: Drive and implement improvements throughout the team, promoting the adoption of new technologies, methodologies, and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards such as SOC 2, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements, maintaining the highest standards of data security and privacy.
Collaboration: Partner with development teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure solutions, ensuring seamless integration and functionality across all systems.
Communication: Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, balancing competing priorities and providing clear updates on project status, challenges, and successes.
Strategic Planning: Develop and implement plans to achieve company and departmental goals, aligning data operations with overall business objectives.
Incident Response: Drive incident response efforts, managing a 24/7 on-call rotation to promptly address and resolve issues, minimizing impact on customers and operations.
Project Estimation: Estimate effort and timelines for projects, ensuring realistic and achievable deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
Solution Architecture: Architect and design solutions to complex systems, leveraging expertise in data infrastructure and cloud technologies to meet current and future needs.
Issue Resolution: Evaluate and address advanced issues, providing effective solutions for customer-impacting problems and ensuring a positive user experience.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field. Advanced degrees or relevant certifications are a plus.
Experience: Proven experience in data operations management, with a strong track record of leading and mentoring technical teams.
Technical Skills: Expertise in cloud technologies, data infrastructure, and compliance standards such as SOC 2 and HIPAA. Proficiency in programming languages and tools relevant to data operations.
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues before they escalate.
Experienced Leader with a proven track record of managing teams.

Long-distance or air travel as needed – not to exceed 10% travel.
