Job Summary
Working independently with general supervision, the Copywriter is responsible for the development of compelling creative concepts and high-quality verbal and written content, within brand and on strategy, across a large variety of print and digital media. This position researches, develops and writes targeted and compelling content-including promotional and web campaigns, social media, product and equipment demonstrations, white papers, sales materials, video segments and more-to support Avantor's growing portfolio of biopharma, services and other and life science divisions, programming and initiatives on print, web and social platforms. The copywriter must exhibit advanced writing knowledge and skills along with an ability to collaborate throughout Avantor's matrixed organization to ensure quality, verbal and visual consistency and timeliness of material. This person must ensure adherence to compliance and regulatory restrictions. Strong business acumen, storytelling and presentation skills, agility, high energy and a collaborative approach are essential to ensure success in delivering quality, brand-appropriate verbal and visual consistency and content relevance. This creative individual also has the business training to ensure adherence to compliance and regulatory restrictions. Highly developed organizational savvy, passion for navigating business challenges and competitor strategies, and developing content accordingly is critical for success.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)
- Write creative, effective copy according to project specifications/creative brief
- Maintain single narrative voice, implementing consistency throughout content - balancing supplier needs with company standards
- Research clients, their competitors and the target audience to support creative strategy and inform the execution
- Provide writing support for aligned client group(s), as well as supporting projects from other clients as demand and scheduling requires
- Collaborate with design team as needed to meet specific project objectives
- Produce original, relevant, clear and credible copy and be accountable for the final development of creative assets that engage and inform customer and deliver a clear call to action.
- Implement SEO enhancement in all web/digital content
- Ensure accuracy, attention to detail and that the project overall meets or exceeds the writing objectives
- Ensure messaging brand guidelines and directives are embraced and adhered to in all executions
- Adhere to regulatory and compliance regulations
- Execute writing requests with accuracy, producing zero errors in work (all client edits are implemented correctly, spell check was run, facts were confirmed)
- Respond to all requests and communications in a timely and thorough manner
- Work to improve the team's overall performance and embrace a collaborative approach
- Support peers by reviewing work to ensure zero errors in work per above
- Edit and proofread material as demand and scheduling requires
- Support leadership in helping to build a unified team mindset
- Engage in professional development to continuously grow in profession and remain competitive with outside services
- Liaise with internal web and print design team to finalize content and coordinate publishing.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in English, journalism, communications or related field
- External or in-house agency experience required
- Healthcare, life sciences and/or biopharma research and writing experience required
- Minimum of five years of professional-level writing experience required
- Portfolio / writing samples required
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)
- Demonstrated proficiency and expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat
- Ability to work independently with general supervision
- Navigates business challenges effectively, collaborates at all levels of the organization including Director and ELT levels
- Strong presentation skills
- Proficiency in AP and/or Chicago Manual of Style
- Biopharma, life science, and healthcare knowledge
- Understanding of writing applications in traditional and emerging channels; applies expertise to solve challenges and connect story to customer
- Ability to maintain a consistent voice and audience focus in writing
- Ability to streamline verbose content, varying viewpoints and complex ideas to focus on the main message in a concise, effective manner
- Consistent quality control in work with a dedication to perfect execution
- Understanding of specific channels or vertical markets as required by job function
- Demonstrated ability to adapt style of copy to various audiences, purposes or media
- Competency presenting creative work to varying levels of leadership including Executive, ability to advocate for and influence toward the right story and connection to customer
- Experience working within legal and compliance parameters
- Ability to focus for long periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 25-50lbs
