As a Bioinformatics Intern, you'll gain professional experience supporting Loka’s certified specialists on Data Engineering (DE) and Machine Learning (ML) projects in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences. This internship is an opportunity to sharpen your skills, contribute to impactful projects and build a strong portfolio in computational biology.
The Role
Collaborate with Loka’s engineers to develop bioinformatics workflows and contribute to DE/ML projects in Life Sciences.
Assist in training machine learning models by preparing and processing data, running experiments and analyzing results.
Explore and visualize biological data, identifying data quality issues and potential biases that may impact performance.
Investigate model errors and help refine ML workflows based on insights from biological data.
Required Hard Skills
Final-year bachelor’s student in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biology or a related field.
Proficient in English
Basic knowledge of Python, machine learning and data analysis libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-learn).
Problem solvingy
Experience visualizing and manipulating big datasets
Not Required but Good to Have
Familiarity with Omics datasets, such as RNA-Seq (transcriptomics), ATAC-Seq (epigenomics), or Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS)
Familiarity with relevant bioinformatics data formats across the primary, secondary and tertiary steps of Omics analysis
Experience in developing bioinformatics workflows
Knowledge of protein engineering concepts and experience with protein structure databases like PDB (Protein Data Bank) or UniProt
Experience in chemoinformatics, including the use of databases/tools like RDKit, PubChem, ChEMB or molecular docking techniques
Exposure to Bio-focused Large Language Models (Bio LLMs) and their applications in scientific research
Participation in Kaggle competitions related to bioinformatics, life sciences or data science
Required Soft Skills
