Loka works with Life Sciences startups that are applying AI, ML and advanced genomics to fight cancer, kidney disease, bacterial infection and other global concerns. As a bioinformatics engineer, you’ll shape infrastructure and drive decisions on large-scale data engineering projects in the genomics segment while developing pipelines and providing technical support for customers.

Responsibilities
Build bioinformatics workflows and provide expert bioinformatics support to clients.
Translate requirements and work with the Data Engineering team on relevant projects in Life Sciences and Omics.
Provide maintenance, upgrades and patches for bioinformatics pipelines.
Gather valuable insights and experiences from every project and client to share with the team.
Stay current with the latest developments and best practices in the field of bioinformatics data analysis.
Required Skills
The successful candidate will have a combination of some, but not necessarily all, of the following:
MSc/PhD in Bioinformatics, Biology, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering or similar
Experience building pipelines for genomics, transcriptomics data or other NGS-based technologies. e.g. WGS, WES, bulk and single-RNA sequencing, etc
Experience in tools to analyze Omics datasets (Cell Ranger, GATK, Salmon, OncoKB, VEP, etc)
Familiarity with relevant bioinformatics data formats across the primary, secondary and tertiary steps of Omics analysis (BCL, FASTQ, BAM/SAM, VCF, h5ad, etc)
Experience in biological interpretation and tertiary analysis of Omics data
Familiarity with large genomic data sets (GDC, TCGA, DepMap, etc)
Experience in developing bioinformatics workflows. Nextflow and Snakemake are highly valued but not mandatory
Experience with Docker and Conda for dependency management for Bioinformatics tools
Clean criminal record required
