Backend Engineer II - Ads Data Platform
The ads measurement team is dedicated to creating scalable, reliable data and backend systems that power our advertising ecosystem. As part of our team, you will play a key role in shaping and realizing our vision to enhance the advertising experience for our clients and establish Spotify as a market leader in advertising.
We are seeking engineers who are passionate about designing, developing, and maintaining robust and scalable systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to build data services and APIs that support our advertising platform, enabling innovative features and analytics. Positioned at the heart of our backend operations, you will assist product teams in driving high performance, reliability, and scalability across our systems. What You'll Do
Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs to power Spotify’s advertising platform
Additionally Maintain and enhance Spotify’s measurement pipelines, ensuring they remain business-critical
Monitor and maintain critical systems and pipelines to ensure high availability, stability, and adherence to SLAs
Build and optimize ETL workflows to ensure data accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new features, ensure system integration, and drive impactful outcomes
Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following best practices in software development
Debug, troubleshoot, and optimize existing systems to improve performance and reliability
Who You Are
You have proven experience in backend and data engineering, with a balanced skill set in both domains or open to mastering both domains
You have strong programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, Scala, or Kotlin
You have hands-on experience with cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure.
You are familiar with API design, microservice architecture, and frameworks like Spring Boot or gRPC
You have knowledge of data processing frameworks such as Apache Beam, Scio, or Spark
You have experience with database systems, both relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and non-relational (e.g., Cassandra, DynamoDB).Proficiency with orchestration tools like Airflow and streaming tools like Kafka or Pub/Sub
You are committed to agile software development practices, CI/CD, and test-driven development
You have excellent problem-solving skills with a passion for optimizing both systems and data pipelines.

The United States base range for this position is $122,716 - 175,308.00, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays. This range encompasses multiple levels. Leveling is determined during the interview process. Placement in a level depends on relevant work history and interview performance. These ranges may be modified in the future.
