Associate Actuary
About the role
Coalition is looking for an actuary to help build out a world-class pricing team. This role comes with a significant amount of ownership and demands a high level of technical skill paired with strong communication. You will be responsible for many key actuarial pricing functions across the cyber and executive risk lines; including loss model development, rate development, rate indications and trend analyses. You will also be responsible for pricing new insurance products. Additional focus areas include assisting with one-off analyses and cross-team collaboration to develop new ways to model and understand risk, with an ongoing goal to improve efficiency in our processes.
The cyber market has unique challenges from a modeling and pricing perspective. We’re looking for someone who likes to take challenges head on, that is curious and able to think outside of the box to build models from the ground up using advanced statistical techniques while relying on a strong insurance foundation to guide decisions. You should enjoy working with complex data, data scientists & actuaries, understanding business context, and having your contributions directly impact our company’s core profit and loss metrics.
Responsibilities
Core pricing responsibilities include:
Development, maintenance and communication of actuarial rate indications and the underlying pricing assumptions.
Build and maintenance of our rate manuals, ensuring rate adequacy and favorable risk selection
Pricing of new insurance product supported with advanced actuarial techniques
Automation and enhancement of actuarial processes
Development of risk controls, including price monitoring and early warning indicators
Development of tools to assess pricing rates & business performance, including UI dashboards
Perform, document and present ad hoc quantitative analysis
Seek innovative opportunities to enhance our pricing accuracy through new data, features or modeling techniques
Straddle the worlds of insurance, data science, engineering and security experts to shape the most suitable data-driven solutions
Act as an ambassador to improve price transparency through strong collaboration with all relevant partners
Skills and Qualifications
7+ years of pricing experience
Has completed 5+ Actuarial Exams
Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Data Science or any other related field
Strong programming skills in R, Python, and/or SQL
Excellent communication skills including ability to vulgarize complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Ability to take ambiguous problems and solve them in a structured data-driven way
Intellectual curiosity and an interest in our mission of solving cyber risk
Strong understanding of actuarial pricing concepts
Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment, be creative and think outside the bo
Bonus Points
ACAS or FCAS designation
Cyber and/or executive liability experience
Experience in predictive modeling
Ability to build transactional data pipelines
Master degree in Data Science or Actuarial Science
Ability to build UI/UX design
