Software Engineer - Search Platform
The Search Platform team builds the infrastructure powering Figma’s search capabilities, including innovations like visual search in the Figma AI bundle. As an engineer on the team, you'll have the opportunity to work on impactful projects like a low-code indexing solution that empowers various product teams to index new data sets and iterate rapidly. Also, our new AI-powered re-ranking architecture, which will blend lexical and vector search results into the most relevant results. You'll scale search infrastructure for Figma’s ever growing data sets of file data and design systems components, while adding support for new content types like AI content recommendations. While driving these new search capabilities, we’ll also be constantly improving the overall search experiences across Figma.
This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
What you'll do at Figma:
Design, build, and maintain scalable and efficient infrastructure for Figma’s search platform, focusing on centralizing and standardizing solutions.
Improve the internal developer experience of working with search by developing low-code interfaces that allow product teams to easily index and manage data for new and existing search use-cases.
Collaborate with the Search Quality, Search Experience, and other product teams to ensure seamless integration of search infrastructure with product-side logic.
Contribute to the development of a new unified search indexing and backfilling pipeline.
Enhance observability and monitoring of search clusters to provide infrastructure-level SLO guarantees.
Participate in setting the technical direction and strategy for search technologies, aligning with the long-term vision of the Search Platform team.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
5+ years of experience in building and scaling distributed systems, both search clusters and also services around them.
Strong expertise in search engine technologies such as OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or Solr.
Knowledge of search algorithms, indexing, and query processing.
Proficiency in optimizing search performance and reducing latency.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a proven track record of completing projects that required cross-functional partnership.
The ability to break down complex topics to successfully communicate with various audiences..
While it’s not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
Experience with novel, custom solutions to complex engineering challenges.
Familiarity with modern programming languages such as Ruby, Go, or Rust.
Experience in evangelizing innovative infrastructure and developer tools.
