Manager - Software Development (Python/Golang)
Role Overview
The Private Cloud Software Engineering Team in Rackspace Technology is looking for talented and committed software development manager to deliver exciting, disruptive and diverse software products and projects.
As a manager in our organization, you will be responsible for the teams that build and support cutting-edge applications to deliver innovative outcomes to our customers. You’ll direct your teams to leverage the best of modern cloud native components, building solutions that are operationally robust and impressively scalable.
A Good Fit
We believe leaders who work as player-coaches bring out the best in our teams. You will contribute to design discussions and decisions with the experience to guide and coach rather than prescribe. Leaders at Rackspace are typically talented facilitators able to capitalize on individual and team strengths with strong communications skills. Key to this role will be the drive and ability to develop your team through continuous feedback with clear goal and KPI setting.
You will closely work with a team of developers supporting team leaders and engineers to solve real time customer and product issues.
How We Work
Our customer and internal-facing platforms are powered by microservices, including event-driven and HTTP APIs. Our services are fronted with a suite of modern JavaScript applications and backend with Python, Golang, NodeJS and Java. We own the full stack of each service from application logic to infrastructure and we are operationally responsible for the services we run. We practice continuous integration and delivery, deploying our services to production hundreds of times a day.
Our team is distributed by design. We don’t want location to be a barrier to hiring talent. We rely on MS Teams and Zoom for chats and video conference and GitHub Pull Requests and Issues, JIRA for collaboration, tracking and feedback on technical issues.
Responsibilities include
Being an expert in Rackspace automation platforms and orchestration workflows, inspiring and coaching your developers to deliver complex business outcomes through software
Building out a diverse, highly skilled group of engineers that will accelerate and enhance Rackspace’s ability to create differentiated customer value
Creating a learning environment for your team, acting as a mentor for engineers and up-and-coming leaders
Becoming instrumental in improving and implementing processes that scale effectively, setting standards and benchmarks for quality and hygiene
Collaborating with cross functional, global teams including Product and Operations
Leading and following standard development practices (design patterns, testing, code reviews, and structured code delivery), along with strict adherence to change control practices.
Requirements
Ideal candidates should have minimum 10+ years professional experience with:
Minimum 3-4 years of experience in managing software development teams
Should have more than 8+ years of hands-on experience in full stack software development, writing the code contributing to developing software products and hands-on on DevOps tools as well
Building user-focused products at pace in an engineering role
Designing and implementing service-oriented applications
Cloud native solutions on platforms like AWS/ Azure/ GCP/ Kubernetes
Proven leadership skills in a defined team management position that prioritize collaboration and support
A track record of on time, high quality delivery of outputs and outcomes
A strong desire to see your team and individuals succeed in the wider business and the ability to shape their career paths
Experience/Education
Full time bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science or related technology field is required.
At the manager’s discretion, additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
Typically requires more than 10 years of full-time experience in software development, engineering, or a related field.
Solid software engineering fundamentals gained through training, course work or relevant experience.
